I used about 1 cup of extra tomato sauce in addition to the other ingredients and I used whole grain pasta. If I were to make it again I would use a lean ground turkey breast/chicken breast and reduce the amount of grated extra cheese in the filling. But I have mildly high cholesterol.

Everyone in our family of 9 enjoys this dish. Sometimes we sub hamburger for the sausage and we prefer cottage cheese instead of ricotta. Our cost in NKY is around $16 using sale prices.

I made this and hubs who has been tired of my experiments was happy to have cheesy comfort food, if I did it again I would double the crushed tomatoes/sauce. Still even after seconds we had at least 75% left for my work lunches this week and all about $17 without getting my normal sales.thank you!

I was worried about making it in a bigger pan, but it worked out great! Next time I’ll double the cheese and the sauce. I didn’t have enough pots so after cooking the sauce I transferred it to a crockpot on low setting. I reused the pot for cooking the ziti and worked great. It was a little over $20 for me at walmart (I had the seasoning and tomato paste and tomatoes at home) I didn’t have crushed tomatoes so I used two cans of diced tomatoes and half a can of tomato paste in a blender. The other half of tomato paste was used in the recipe. It seems daunting to make this the first time, it’s a very forgiving recipe, low maintenance. My fiancee loves it, I made it last night and there’s less than a quarter left today!

how can you say “the only difference” and then go on to list multiple ways you’ve changed the recipe… you’re not cooking this dish anymore with that many modifications so it’s not a fair representation of the recipe given.

Almost missed this recipe because the new numbered format is irritating.
You have no idea what the recipe is going to be til you click on it.
The description, easy dinner for a big group doesn’t give me enough info.
To the recipe.
Love it.
I have a very similar recipe that I just made yesterday.
Only difference, I add green peppers & mushrooms.
I don’t add cheese.
And I don’t bake it, just stovetop.
It is delicious and I have been making it for years.
Thanks for this sensible deicious recipe.

Sounds yummy but I have a bunch of sauce in my freezer that I need I use, this would be a good way. Thanks! :)
